ME COVETING A 1955 HILLMAN MINX
When I was a boy, I used to love cars of the thirties, and made many (mostly 1/24 scale Monogram) plastic kits. My father kept these on display for years in his rec room. A few years ago, I finally brought them to my house. This, combined with gifts from my wife of 1/18 scale diecasts, got the 'bug' into me.

Although I started out to collect models of 1930s cars, I soon concentrated on open sports cars of the 1950s. However, before long I realized that I couldn't pass up the opportunity of acquiring non-1950s, non-open, and non-sports cars that interested me, as you will see from my collection. Recently, for example, I have become more interested in cars of the 1940s.

I am thankful that I was just old enough, in the late 1950s and early 1960s, to appreciate the wonderful American cars that were being produced then. What a difference from the cars that I had grown up with for six years in England. As the '60s wore on and turned into the '70s, I found that my interest declined. Just putting a huge engine into an otherwise boring looking car was not enough for me.

Thanks to diecast, I can have my own 'Classics' collection, which takes up less space and is less costly than just one real car, and allows me to 'own' cars that would be impossible to acquire otherwise.

One day, though, I want just one 1:1 scale classic!
